The Freedom

Caribbean, Family

She’s Freedom of the Seas and on our sailing out of Port Everglades transported somewhere around 4200 passengers on a week long adventure into the Caribbean Sea. Yes, some of us had misadventures even getting to the ship and Carol didn’t even catch up to us until Tuesday. Yes, we missed our beach day in Labadee. Yes, we sailed through the same cold front twice experiencing 20 foot waves some of which even flooded the deck where we were dancing as well as cool rainy weather. Even with all of that our Savoy at Sea group had a glorious time together dancing on board, prowling San Juan, St Maarten/St Martin, and St Kitts as The Cat Herd, slurping on umbrella drinks, and dancing for eight days! This was our Fourteenth (and counting) Annual Swing Dance Cruise! What a glorious celebration of family and friends!

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
