Sinking Spring Farm

Now sheltered by the Lincoln Birthplace Memorial is a historic log cabin much like the one in which Nancy Hanks Lincoln gave birth on February 12, 1809. She and her husband Thomas named their son after his grandfather Abraham. Although the family was forced to leave this farm due to a dispute over ownership when young Abe was but a toddler, it’s where his personal story began. This is the first Lincoln Memorial built to commemorate the 16th President’s 100th Birthday in 1909.
