On Boston Post Road in southern Connecticut is a Guilford cultural institution, Bishop’s Orchard Market is the face of a farm and orchards that has been family run and operated for nearly one hundred fifty years. We stayed overnight as guests through the Harvest Hosts program that we just recently joined. We arrived yesterday afternoon and were directed to park in the grassy field and chose a spot next to the petting zoo. After shopping at the farm market for delectable local fruits and vegetables, a couple of prepared stuffed turkey breast dinners, and a quiche for this morning’s breakfast, we settled in for the evening. Although we didn’t opt to do so, there were lots more opportunities including pick your own apples, wine tastings, and luscious ice cream! Once all the CSA boxes had been picked up and little kids and parents had visited the llamas, goats, and chickens, we set out our chairs and enjoyed fresh peaches and iced decaf as we visited with our neighbors, another couple on a four month long ramble across the US. They’ve traveled from San Diego CA to Bar Harbor ME by way of Seattle WA. A most pleasant stay!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
