On a Road Again

2017 New England, Ohio, Road Trip

After a three night sojourn in Geneva State Park we hit US-20 eastbound fighting with the Maps app regarding whether we should travel interstate or US highway on our way to Westfield NY. Along we way we made a couple of stops. First at Steve’s Auto Wash (no relation) to spiffy up our home and wheels.

Then in downtown Conneaut we popped into Mooney’s Bakery for some comfort food, a maple eclair, a cherry turnover, and a couple of chocolate chocolate cookies. Yum. Next door to the bakery we noticed the WWOW radio station so we tuned in. Just like the baked goods it was a trip back in time. We could have been listening to WLCY back in our high school/college days! It was lovely cruising with Lake Erie visible in the distance on our left and vineyards on either side. Then we arrived at the KOA and were delighted with the greetings and also by the opportunity to order hot food delivered to our campsite. Thanks for the hospitality, Nate! All this and a fun call from Linus and Greg this morning has lifted our spirits a bit.

Mooney’s looks like a “dangerous” place! Wishing you safe travels!

WLCY, I remember that. It disappeared and I never saw it vanish until after the fact.

In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
