To kick off our first full day in Vermont, Jane met us at our campsite for a tour of our T@B-400 then we climbed into her car for the drive to Shelburne Farms, a local institution since late in the Nineteenth Century. We were intrigued with the Vanderbilt connection and thus with Asheville’s Biltmore Mansion. We wandered inside the great house admiring the portraits and the furnishings. Then there was awesome breakfast served in the grand dining room, the expansive views of Lake Champlain with the Adirondack Mountains, the enchanted yew forest, and the beautifully restored gardens. After breakfast we lingered on the lawn enjoying the gorgeous weather, the fabulous scenery, and friendly companionship.
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
