Chenango Valley

2018 Northeast, New York, Road Trip

After a leisurely breakfast at the house with Ben & Lynda we quickly packed up and hitched up our T@B 400 which had been patiently parked in the driveway while we’d ventured off to Boston. Instead of staying to watch the Fourth of July Parade march past the house, we left town and headed west. It’s a busy camping weekend but we’d managed to get two nights in Chenango Valley State Park near Binghamton NY, thanks to the Allstays app and the ReserveAmerica website. With pleasant weather we enjoyed the drive through western Mass and eastern upstate NY, across the Hudson and into the Catskills! Now it’s time to just sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature amid the cacophony of kids playing mixed with the aroma of dozens of campfires! The next few days will be our interlude between the excitement of family visits and the festivities with friends at üCamp.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
