East of Knoxville

2018 Northeast, Road Trip, Tennessee

Once we get within a day’s drive of our house we find it difficult to stop for just one more overnight. True to form we left Cincinnati this morning telling ourselves we’d stop somewhere and explore one of those interesting places we always breeze past but now we’re within two hours of our mountain home. However once we made the decision to not stop for the night we did decide to stop for a sit down meal. So here we are at Aubrey’s on Huckleberry Springs Road on the east side of Knoxville TN. It’s just off I-40 and has plenty of space for us to park our rig and maneuver in and out. We’re enjoying Southern Hospitality including great conversation with our server, Tyler. Our Perfect Pairs selections were delicious and fortunately left room for dessert. Now we’re sharing Praline Cheesecake that reminds us of Junior’s at Grand Central Station! What a perfect way to top off phase one of our 2018 Summer Ramble!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
