Errands and Auto Care

2018 Northeast, Road Trip

One of the advantages of putting down stakes in Sugarcreek, Ohio a few days ahead of schedule, is the opportunity to run errands in somewhat familiar territory. This morning we had the pleasure of grocery shopping at Buehler’s in Dover, one of a small chain of supermarkets in northeast Ohio. Then we stopped by the Valvoline in New Philadelphia for an oil change. We’re semi regular customers there! A surprisingly fun stop was to purchase an air filter and wiper blades at Advance Auto Parts. Our use of Apple Pay was a revealing first for the three guys behind the counter this morning. They hadn’t known that they had the technology for a customer to use a smartphone to make a purchase! And of course we enjoyed the Advance Auto Parts service of installation of our new wiper blades and disposal/recycling of our used parts. Now it’s time to head back to camp to put away groceries, grab a rest, and prepare for sunset festivities!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
