The Annual Ball Game

2018 Northeast, Road Trip

When we chose to arrive early at Winklepleck for the üCamp18 rally we were aware that there would be other events happening on the grounds over the weekend but thought that since our campsite was at the far end of the park that we would not be in the way. Turns out we were located on the third base line for Friday night’s baseball game. It’s an annual event for the members of a local church community. It was easy enough for us to just move our 400 several feet to the south especially with the assistance of our friends Elsie and Sarah and several of their family and friends. Then several other members of the community drifted over, toured Amanda’s and our trailers, and lingered to visit a while. It was a beautiful summer evening!

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
