Tionesta Recreation Area

2018 Northeast, New York, Road Trip

Just on the fringe of Allegany National Forest on the banks of Tionesta Creek, we’re enjoying the comforts of Tionesta Campground Site #42. It’s an Army Corps of Engineers campground with more amenities than usual. We’ve got full hookups! We got to indulge in full fledged hot showers this morning! No need to worry about overfilling the gray water tank. Such joy! This particular site is well shaded and roomy, situated just next to the stream. Right now since it’s mid-week, we have no neighbors adjacent to us which adds to the peace and quiet. The weather is perfect. It was cool for sleeping last night, should continue to be sunny and reach the low 80’s this afternoon. And although we have only a weak data signal on our site, a short walk across the road and down three sites gets us to a strong LTE signal. So much for which to be grateful!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
