The trip from Waterford to Dublin is but a two hour trip via the modern Motorway. We thought we’d head on into Dublin and spend some time walking around the city center. Along the way Alice suggested we find a place to pull off and stretch our legs. There aren’t any rest areas or even businesses at the motorway exits so when we got off the motorway we headed into Kilkenny. A wrong turn took us right along The Parade past a long line of LCMs, Kilkenny Castle, and Kilkenny Farmer’s Market! From there we navigated ourselves onto N78 and north to Castlecomer to park in front of The Vault Cocktail Lounge and to walk a short distance on this beautiful Saturday afternoon to Dillon’s Bar, a quintessential Irish Pub where soon locals began arriving in fancy dress. We finished up and left our table available. As Alice and Lou were checking out a local shop Patti and Karen meandered back to the car. As we waited, another two couples in fancy dress walked up from the church on a side street and into The Vault. Then as we were leaving we drove past the local park and saw a bridal couple, a vintage auto, and s photographer. Obviously the thing for wedding guests to do in between the ceremony and the reception is visit the local pub! This was so much better than driving the motorway!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
