Yesterday’s route took us along the shore of Lake Michigan through Charlevoix, past the former World’s Largest Cherry Pie Pan, Petoskey, and Mackinaw City, across the Mighty Mac, and then west on US-2, the Lake Michigan Scenic Highway almost to Naubinway. We then turned off into Hog Island Point State Forest Campground. All sites are first come, first serve and self-registration. $15 for a lakefront piece of property sounded great. Site #39 suited us just fine. No hookups, but who needs them in weather like this?
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
