Sundance Overnight

2018 West, Road Trip, Wyoming

When we made a phone call to family in Salt Lake City on Sunday to make plans for a visit this weekend, the drive from Pipestone MN seemed eminently doable. We forgot how many places we want to explore along this route. Yesterday we just buzzed through the Black Hills and past the BLM land where we’d contemplated off grid camping. The weather, the smoke haze, and or desire to get a little further down the road got us to where we are. This morning we’re awakening just a few miles from Devil’s Tower. When we visited in 2008 we promised ourselves we’d return and spend more time. Now we know that Reuter National Forest Campground near Sundance, Wyoming will be a great spot for that. Campsite 14 is sweet but gets too little sun for our solar panels. However we have other plans today. We’re headed for Casper and beyond. We staged this morning’s breakfast last night. We didn’t unhitch yesterday afternoon. It was a good overnight here. After two days of dreary overcast and hazy vistas we enjoyed the dappled sunshine through the tall pines as well as the peaceful quiet of this small campground.

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
