The Next Morning

Family, International, Ireland

Three of us awakened at Alice’s house at various times this morning. Karen still had her phone set to Dublin time so when she awoke at 7AM it seemed logical to shower and start getting her gear ready for repacking. It took a little while to realize that the reason no one else was stirring was that it was in fact 1AM local time! Once the sun came up and everyone was awake we greeted the day with mimosas, coffee, eggs, sausage, and fruit toast with the last of the Irish Butter while we pored over the Ireland road map marking places we saw and roads we drove. Patti arrived and joined in the fun. We sorted through some of Dad’s possessions unleashing a flood of memories. Ultimately the time came for one last group hug and the singing of our family song, “Here We Are”, which now has even more meaning than ever then Patti took Lou and Karen to the airport to deal with flight delays and rescheduled flights. Soon we will all be settling into our usual routines but with incredible memories of an amazing journey of sisterhood.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
