One of the effects of travel for us is an emotional connectedness to the places we have visited. When we learned on the news this past winter about the Thomas Fire in California’s Ventura County we immediately began fearing for the people and places we knew and had visited here. In fact the fire started initially in Santa Paula Canyon a scant two or three miles from Ventura Ranch KOA, a place where we stayed in 2016. The campground and nearby Steckel Park were devastated but the owner was determined to rebuild as quickly as possible and nature has done her part to green up the space. The office and maintenance are housed in temporary quarters, there’s currently no laundry, camp store, or zip line but cabins, teepees, safari tents, pool, lots of activities, and everything we need for a comfortable stay is in place. Kudos to the owner and his staff for the dedication necessary for recreating this great environment so quickly!
Winter Magic in Medina
By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!
