Overnight in Bishop

2018 West, California, Road Trip

Since we’re staying in a prime location in downtown Bishop, California, at J Diamond Mobile Ranch Camp, we opted to take the opportunity to have our tow vehicle inspected by a mechanic. The local Ford dealer was backed up at least a week but our campground Hosts suggested Mr K Automotive on Grove Avenue. We dropped it off just minutes after 8 AM and agreed to leave it all day, walked across the street to Jack’s and while eating breakfast and discussing what we might do with an unplanned day in Bishop, we got a call. Not only had they completed 40 Point Inspection, they offered to charge it to AAA, as one of the member benefits that we hadn’t known we were entitled to on an annual basis! With that we headed back to the campground, prepared for departure, enjoyed conversation neighbors, hobnobbed with one of the hosts then headed south toward Lone Pine.

I hope you stopped @The Cowboy/Movie museum, for a trip down memory lane. More Westerns used Lone Pine as the location for more Westerns than any other place, because of the majestic mountains in the background.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
