In no particular hurry this morning we enjoyed coffee, conversation, breakfast, and listening to the park road audio tour while we ran the generator. Then we ventured out. We began our adventures at Chaos Crags. At each point of interest we’d stop the car and get out, read the signs, take pictures and try to wrap our heads around the geologic or historic events represented. At the Devastated Area we paused for a picnic before walking the interpretive trail. At Kings Creek Meadow we lay in the grass and luxuriated in the sunshine and the sounds of the babbling brook. At Sulphur Works we not only stared in wonder at the fumaroles and the bubbling mud pots but also gathered the information needed to complete a Geocaching EarthCache on this International EarthCache Day. Then at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitors Center Lou treated us to Ice Cream bars that were so good we decided to each have one more! On the way back to camp we were tempted to hike the Kings Creek Falls Trail but then thought again. At four in the afternoon the sun was dipping low and temperatures were beginning to drop. Let’s save it for another time. So we headed back to the T@B, fired up the Coleman, and fixed ourselves a delicious Steak Salad for supper. Fun adventures!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
