Van Horn RV Park

2018 West, Road Trip, Texas

Yesterday afternoon we pulled into an RV park in Van Horn, Texas, imaginatively named Van Horn RV Park and were warmly greeted by Penny, one of the owners, and by the manager of the onsite restaurant, Penny’s Cafe. With a welcome like that, of course we walked the short distance to the cafe and savored some Country Fried Steak and Fried Catfish finished with an amazing Pecan Cobbler à la mode, then took a walk around this West Texas campground that’s recently suffered rains and flooding. So of course this morning it rained again! While we were preparing for departure we saw the Wheelie Across America support vehicles pull in to empty tanks. We’d not been aware of Kurt Osborne’s quest to break his own record for longest bicycle wheelie until we saw him and is caravan on I-10 eastbound yesterday and looked him up although we wren’t quick enough to snap a photo. Good luck, Kurt!

In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
