This year we are celebrating Winter Solstice traveling north. We climbed aboard The Crescent in darkness at 5:30AM and had breakfast in the Dining Car as dawn broke over the landscape. Twelve hours later we are underground at Washington DC’s Union Station as darkness is descending. We’ve learned from our delightful porter, Tina, that not only is Amtrak adding special holiday trains between NYC and Boston so we should definitely be able to make a connection tonight but our train will be serving dinner tonight! We could be fretting over what’s going wrong but with the care we’re getting from Amtrak, we’re just going with the flow, trusting that soon enough we’ll be with family. Tomorrow as the days begin to grow longer we’ll be playing with grandsons as they continue to grow bigger!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
