Metro Diner

Florida, Road Trip

When you walk into an eating establishment and you spot photos of Guy Fieri, you think you might be in for a treat. Indeed we had a fine dinner this evening at St Petersburg, Florida’s Metro Diner. This chain of diners offering amazing comfort food had it’s beginnings in Jacksonville In 1938 and a revival in 1992. Although this location was not here in the days when we called St Petersburg home, it’s pretty evident that we would have frequented the place, not only for the good food and the great service, but also for the fact that we nearly always run into someone we know when we come here to eat. It’s always a good idea to check the Specials board. Tonight the Beef Pot Pie was superb! Tomorrow we begin our trek back to our mountain home and our winter project.

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
