On the Dance Floor

Family

Twenty years ago the two of us began a new chapter in our lives when we presented ourselves at a place called Right Step Dance Studio not far from our home at the time in St Petersburg, Florida. Not only did we learn the basics of swing dancing but we began developing a fabulous circle of fun loving friends. Our teacher then, Arleene, is now a dear friend and still active in organizing community dances as well as teaching East Coast Swing and other partner social dances and coordinating our annual winter dance cruise. Tonight we had the distinct pleasure of dancing to live music at her monthly charity dance in downtown Clearwater. We had the opportunity to dance with and visit with numerous friends that we have made through dance through the years but also had a most unexpected encounter with John, a member the The Jive Aces. He’s our favorite member of our favorite swing dance band in the whole wide world. If you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to this amazing band, you must see the video Bring Me Sunshine. And note John bringing new meaning to the term “cool sax” as the whole experience brings a big smile to your soul!

Wicked The Musical

In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
