It’s been twelve years since I read this tale of music and magic, evil and courage set in Cornwall. Last time I read it in paperback format in the 1990’s. In the intervening years the two of us have been making the transition to a digital library so this time I read The Little Country as an ebook on my iPhone and found it amplified the experience. Each time I came across a place name I could look it up on Maps or do a search for more information on a historical figure. I could use the search feature to find other references to a particular character within the book. Then there’s the fact that it’s easier to read in bed as well as it’s handy for reading at odd moments such as in a waiting room. Now desire to visit Cornwall and to see the Mên-an-Tol and Mousehole in person! I think we’d both love it. -K
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
