Lake Hasty Campground

2019 West Again, Colorado, Road Trip, States

Last night as we were lying in bed we looked at the All Stays app to see what the possibilities were for a campground more or less a hundred miles west of Dodge City. The US-400 corridor isn’t exactly crowded with campgrounds and we were rather hoping to make it into Colorado so we started focusing on John Martin Reservoir State Park and discovered that we could get a reservation for an electric site at Lake Hasty through the Reserve America website. Hooray! We booked it. After leaving Dodge City we headed straight to Hasty and to the park arriving in the 100°F of a Colorado plains summer afternoon. We huddled inside the T@B in the air conditioning for a few hours then ventured out into a glorious summer evening. A walk around the campground revealed lovely shaded sites and gorgeous lakeside sites in contrast to our Site #3 out in the treeless area but now that the sun is down and the moon and Venus are shining it’s a fabulous feeling feeling to be here now! It’s apparently a campground designed by the Army Corps of Engineers when they built the dam here although it’s now administered by the Colorado State Parks. One of the wonderful things here is that the sites are far enough apart that even though it’s filled to capacity on this Saturday night we don’t have any other campers breathing down our necks. Life is good!

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Over a long weekend we sampled some of the myriad things to do in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, unique among national parks for it’s environmental reclamation, historic preservation, and recreational opportunities adjacent to the populous cities of Cleveland and Akron in northeastern Ohio. Can’t wait to return and explore more.

Slow Journey Home

Slow Journey Home

Our journey from Portsmouth, England to our home in Ohio might have been accomplished in about sixteen hours but my avoiding air travel we were able to enjoy a fifteen day journey home via train, ship, Uber, train, as well as our own feet and finally our personal vehicle.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

It’s been a fascinating two day visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. We managed to pack in tours of the HMS Warrior, the HMS Victory as well ast Victory Live: The
Big Repair, and finally the Mary Rose. All were incredibly informative and well presented.
