After the dam tour we briefly checked out the marina but didn’t stay long since the restaurant wasn’t open so we headed east to the Dutch John Resort for a nice sit down lunch before heading west to the Red Canyon Overlook. Wow! What incredible views. The visitor center is a wealth of information on the history of the area but what took our breath away was the amazing views! From inside the visitor center you can look out the huge plate glass windows at the canyon but even more impressive is the short loop walk out to the canyon’s edge. We were grateful for some stout fencing that allowed us to get close to the edge safely. We lingered a while just drinking in the beauty. There’s great camping in the area and we’d enjoy making this a destination for a longer stay something when the weather is a little cooler.
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
