Overnight in Petaluma

2019 West Again, California, Road Trip, States

The reservation for our stay at Half Moon Bay RV Park was made months ago when we first made plans to join family here this weekend. At the time we thought it prudent to stay through Sunday night. Then on Sunday morning we realized that would put us in the position of traveling over the Golden Gate in Monday morning traffic. Not an enticing idea. Instead we used the KOA App to make a reservation for Sunday night in Petaluma, California . That put us an hour north of the big city. It was a wise decision. We ran into some traffic snags along the way but nothing major. And although we didn’t stay the last night at Half Moon Bay, we didn’t have to vacate our spot by 11 AM giving us plenty of time to enjoy family first and deal with hitching up at our leisure. The Petaluma KOA was a good choice too. We got a friendly welcome in a convenient location as we paused in our journey north. And it was fun listening to kids enjoy the last few days of freedom before school starts again!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
