The Rusty Nail Winery

2021, Road Trip, West Virginia

What a delight to go hang out for a couple of hours in a winery knowing that the trek home is walking just a few yards to our camper. That’s just what Mike and Shelly offered us at The Rusty Nail in Martinsburg, West Virginia last night. Lucky for us they joined Harvest Hosts several months ago and they are located just off I-81, along our route from western Massachusetts to our North Carolina house, giving us a great opportunity for an overnight stay and chance to become a customer of a business we’d probably never otherwise know about. They’re a small farm winery, growing a few of their own grapes and otherwise concentrating on Niagara grapes, which we personally favor for their low tannins. It was a delightful evening of sipping various wines and of swapping stories with them as well as our fellow Harvest Hosts guests. From here we plan to overnight tonight in Wytheville then head back to the house for just a few days. We have a couple of things to do including get the new trailer registered before getting back on the road.

Winter Magic in Medina

Winter Magic in Medina

By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!

Savoy at Sea 2025

The warmth we anticipated when we headed to the Caribbean in mid-January didn’t really materialize but the fun we had with our dancing friends and the great crew of the Margaritaville at Sea Islander more than made up for the not so favorable weather.
