Chowder House Cafe

2021, Ohio, Road Trip, States

The crazy detour, from Illinois to Ohio, for warranty work on our little teardrop camper, has another benefit. We get to enjoy a weekend with family, moochdocking in our son’s driveway, lunch out on a summer’s day with our granddaughters while the parents are at work, Friday night pizza and a movie, help from Peyton & Riley putting our stickers collection on the side of of trailer, and when the girls headed off to a baseball game, adults night out. Amy and Dave had discovered the Chowder House Cafe in Akron, Ohio after reading Yelp! reviews and couldn’t wait to share their find with us. For the four of us who were all raised on the coast and adore excellent seafood, this was a great find. It a small indie restaurant with a fun, funky decor, fabulous craft cocktails, and superb chef driven culinary offerings with an emphasis though not limited to quality seafood and French cuisine. Among us we tried two hand crafted cocktails, one microbrew, and eight various dishes. Everything was wonderfully tasty. A fabulous cap to our impromptu visit. Hope we can return again to this eatery!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
