White Winter Winery

2021, Road Trip, States, Wisconsin

To Mead or not to Mead wasn’t really a question at White Winter Winery in Iron River, Wisconsin yesterday. We pulled in, spoke with our hostess, who was expecting us as part of the Harvest Hosts program, got ourselves situated behind their building, met our fellow guests and headed around front to enjoy some mead. This time honored beverage crafted from honey, water, and yeast, has been the passion of Jon and Kim for more that twenty-five years now. Sitting under a canopy in front of the meadery we enjoyed a lovely late July Wisconsin afternoon getting to know Dennis & Laure and learning about the various meads and mead based spirits crafted here. We truly enjoyed the Dark Mead. For seconds, Karen kicked it up a notch with some Ass Kickin’ Apple Jalapeño Spirits! Then after closing, Jon, the meadmaster kicked it up another notch and gave us a tour of the cidery/distillery. The party then moved out back when Jon & Kim toured our T@B 400 and Dennis & Laure’s camper of similar size, an Intech Sol. Still not ready to pack it in, we set up chairs outside and spent a few more hours in conversation with with our fellow tiny camper travelers. This is a visit the two of us will be talking about for a long time!

So glad I got this tip from you! Such nice folks. I’m afraid I went a little crazy and bought quite a few “gifts for others” . If it lasts that long!

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
