This is It! Proclaims a sign at the end of Fisher Lake Road, as you arrive at Island View Lodge near Mercer, Wisconsin. We first arrived here for a Harvest Hosts overnight last August and immediately fell in love with the feel of this place. Before we departed we booked Cabin 6 for a week. Now we’re here! This is the week! And we have spent it just enjoying the lake. Visions of kayaking and swimming evaporated with some really chilly weather but the view of the lake and of the island is captivating. We’ve operated on “island time” and have managed to totally relax in the care of Erin & Alex. Other than one outing to do laundry and explore the town of Mercer a bit, including checking out the World’s Largest Talking Loon statue and acquiring a talking stuffed loon for our T@B, we’ve just sat and watched the hummingbirds, listened to an occasional loon call, witnessed our neighbors heading out on fishing trips, and chilled. We’ve always managed to show up at the lodge at dinner time to enjoy libations and some great conversation with our hosts, fellow guests, and locals along with delicious eats.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
