This one wasn’t expected at all. We arrived last evening and overnighted in one of the Courtesy Sites behind the nüCamp RV Service Center for an appointment early this morning to have our wheel bearings repacked. Just a bit of preventative maintenance, no big deal. We took the opportunity to get together with friends we’ve made here through the years. We ate a couple of meals at Habanero’s, a fun restaurant and so close to the factory. And spent time with other folks from nüCamp over the course of the day. Midday we learned that we had a damaged axle and the entire assembly needed to be replaced, quite possibly from hitting massive potholes back in February on I-40 eastbound near Flagstaff, the worst stretch of interstate we’ve every encountered. Fortunately it was something that they could accomplish by the end of the work day. Unfortunately we don’t have an extended warranty to cover this one so it was a bit of a hit to the wallet. Nonetheless we’re out of here in plenty of time to make it to Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park Campground west of Green, Ohio where we have reservations for a non-electric site this weekend then on Sunday we get to move to an electric site just across the road for an additional four nights.
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Sorry for your axle troubles. We agree on the “worst stretch of Interstate”. In 2017 when we went to Grand Canyon and other parks in Utah, we stayed in Williams, AZ, and the stretch between Williams and Flagstaff (on I-40) was horrible in a Jeep Wrangler! We tried to dodge most, but many you just had to hit and hold on tight.
We love your blogs and would love to see you guys, too.
Yes! We’re looking forward to the next time we can hang out together. And yes, we now know to take a off interstate route next time we cross Arizona. We think that might have been the reason we needed to replace a wheel bearing on the truck too!
