Taking a Break in Ohio

2023 Full-Time, Ohio, Road Trip, States

It’s been five weeks since we arrived in Ohio and we’ve had three different long stays, six nights at Nimisila, ten nights at Winklepleck, and sixteen nights moochdocking behind our son’s family’s house. Besides the fabulous week at üCamp, it’s given us the opportunity to celebrate Dad’s Day with one of our sons, to see our granddaughter’s dance recital, and enjoy more time with family that we we were able to when we had a house in North Carolina. This bit of down time has also given us more time to explore northern Ohio, checking out cool restaurants, making doctors appointments, stashing and retrieving stuff from our storage unit, and more. We’ve found our favorite watering hole in Medina, the Pub downstairs at Thyme2 Restaurant. But then there was the most delicious lunch overlooking the Cuyahoga River at Burntwood Tavern in Cuyahoga Falls. And then there was the family outing to Bourbon Street Barrel Room in Cleveland for a fabulous Father’s Day Brunch. Both Dads thought it a treat. Fourth of July saw us doing a backyard cookout with the family and topping the evening off with a trip to Bruster’s Ice Cream

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
