We both rode the slide! But that’s jumping ahead of the story that began back in Mark Klaus’ childhood growing up in a family that took Christmas decorations seriously including a sixteen foot fresh Christmas tree hung from the ceiling. Living up to his last name Klaus grew up being an ambassador for Christmas and putting an emphasis on Christmas in his professional life as a sculptor. This enthusiasm for Christmas led him to amass an amazing collection of Christmas decorations, toys, movie props and costumes, and New York department store window displays. All of this is on display in Castle Noel just off the Public Square in Medina, Ohio and is one of the reasons HGTV recently named Medina as Ohio’s Top Christmas Town. We visited this morning to see what the excitement was all about and truly enjoyed the guided tour through all the various rooms and ever changing collections including a mind blowing trip through The Blizzard Vortex back into childhood and ultimately to the top of Christmas Mountain for a visit with Santa and ride down The Slide just like Ralphie in A Christmas Story!

Enjoy some Castle Noel videos here.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
