At Home in Medina

Family

That’s where we are now. Medina, in northeast Ohio. A delightful small town that ticks nearly all the boxes for the lifestyle the two of us enjoy. It’s incredibly walkable for most things that we do on a regular basis, and others are just a short drive away. We’re much closer to family here in Ohio and in Indiana and Massachusetts. When we sold our house in late 2022 we suspected that Medina would be the community that we would settle in eventually. Then in late October, shortly after we arrived home from our London adventures, we enjoyed a three week stay in an AirBnB just off the square in downtown to give us more of a feel for the place. We loved it! Everyday we went for a walk in a different part of town eventually decided that we didn’t want an apartment right on Public Square but nearby, still close enough to easily walk there, but perhaps just northeast of the center of town. We’d already begun establishing with a primary care doctor and needed to be in town for some follow up well care. Winter was coming on we realized with campgrounds closing we didn’t have any good options for staying nearby in our T@B. In the final couple of days of that stay we reached out in the hopes of getting on a waiting list for an apartment only to learn of a vacancy in ten weeks, just a block and a half northeast of Public Square! So close to the center of town but far enough away from the traffic and the train tracks. We snagged it. From there we made visits to be with family in Canton then spent a wonderful Thanksgiving with family in Massachusetts. We found a storage situation for our T@B and a short term apartment rental in Medina. During all this time our energies were going to reworking this website as well as all the activities associated with moving and making friends in our new hometown. Thanks for bearing with us during the quiet days on the blog. We still owe a least a few backdated blogs some of which will come soon. And we have soon more adventures to blog about planned for the near future. Life is an adventure!

How lovely! I’m glad you’ve landed! I will have to come visit.

On other news…I am finally getting my deck on the back of the house put up. It’s a nice 2nd story screen room with a lower level that will lead out to the back yard and a fire pit. And yes there is a covered parking space under the screen room for a mooch dock. I have thought about starting an annual deck day in your honor. (much smaller scale of course)

I missed getting you Christmas card this past year. If you would IM me your mailing address, I would like to make sure I have you on the list for next year. Yes, I know I could have emailed something, but it’s not quite the same. Love to you both:)

Looks like a wonderful town. Coming from the north east we sure miss winter snow, the New England architecture, the fall beauty, a warm fire in the fireplace. Not complaining though, 80° and sunshine is also hard to beat here in Arizona.

And we loved the sunshine and blue skies during our Florida years but are truly enjoying the snow especially since we don’t have to shovel it.

We’ve been thinking about you two lately. We wondered why there haven’t been many new blog posts. The mystery is over. Glad you found a new hometown. We need to plan a time when you will be passing through our area again. You still need to see what history CNY has to offer. And local food, can’t forget the food. Sending hugs.

We’ll definitely plan a stop in CNY. Looking forward to the history, the scenery, the food, the porter, but most of all the company! And it’ll be a chance to fill you in on what was happening during that long quiet spell.

It’s good to have a comfortable base to come home to between adventures. If you’re up that way let’s get together over a cup of tea!

Good to hear you’re mobile enough to be back on the Owl Prowl. Hopefully you’ll be hiking again soon. Not sure when we’ll return to Congaree, but it’s on our list! Take care and stay in touch!

Great news about your new home. Sounds like you will be happy there and close to the kids and g-kids. That’s definitely a bonus. I wrote you a comment on FB so I won’t repeat myself. Please email us your new mailing address so we can keep in touch. I remember the joy you had when you purchased the property in NC and Art and I wish you the same joy, love and laughter in your new home. Don’t forget to stop by when in Florida. Take care of yourself.
    Love, Lynn & Art.

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
