Life Aboard the Pearl

2024, Canada, Europe, International

Quite a few years ago we learned about repositioning cruises and decided that one day, we would do one. That’s when at the end of a season a ship leaves one market and moves to another one such as from Alaska to Hawaii or from North America to South America. Our journey this time aboard the Norwegian Pearl from New York to Southampton is one segment of a repositioning from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. Once we disembark she’ll continue on to Barcelona, then Rome, and on to Athens for the season before repositioning later in the year back to the Caribbean. Unlike our transatlantic voyages last year aboard Queen Mary 2, this has been a fourteen night cruise with stops along the way in Canada, Iceland, Ireland, England, and France. We’ve aboard ship, appreciated some of the theater productions, have enjoyed conversations with fellow travelers, but have also found ourselves seeking out quiet places aboard ship. Norwegian allows you to choose your own dinner time at any of the restaurants on board. We tried many of them but decided our favorite was Indigo where we always requested the same server, Zuber who always remembers our preferences and favorite cocktails. We also appreciated that we could get a late breakfast at a couple of the restaurants. As far as adventures in port, we’ve done a couple of shore excursions as well as some exploring port on our own. And it’s been a comfortable crossing with mostly smooth seas. It’s a wonderful way to cross The Pond, setting our watches forward on hour before bedtime every few days so we’re arriving in London without jet lag! We’re now packed up and ready to carry our own luggage off early tomorrow and begin the next phase of this adventure!

It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
