Guernsey State Park
Years ago we got a book listing some of the best state parks in the US. Today we're staying at one of the parks listed. It's not the best time for boating since the lake/reservoir has been drained to send water to Nebraska for irrigation. But another great thing about...
Planning on the Fly
As we sought a campsite last night near Ft Collins CO, we learned that Frontier Days is in full swing in Cheyenne WY and that campsites and hotel rooms are a scarce commodity. We were lucky enough to score a tent site for last night but we now know that we'd rather...
Rocky Mountains
We traveled today from Steamboat Springs to Fort Collins along US-40 and CO-14, the Cache la Poudre Scenic Byway. Oh! The scenery! It's unbelievable. We traveled north of Rocky Mountain National Park but the scenery was every bit as beautiful! But now in Fort Collins...
Steamboat & Strawberry
We enjoyed a leisurely morning in camp listening to the rushing of the Yampa River next to our site before going into the town of Steamboat Springs for lunch, a bit of geocaching, and a little shopping. We finished our day in a most relaxing manner by soaking in the...
On Top of the World!
Forty-one years ago when we were tent camping across the country on our honeymoon The Carpenters' hit On Top of the World was high on the charts and being played frequently on FM stations across the country. It was a bit of an anthem for us. Today as we were traveling...
Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway
The docent at the visitor center in Meeker told us about the Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway. It's shown as a major road on the official Colorado highway map but to call this mostly gravel road between Meeker and Yampa a highway would be a stretch. It is a nice wide...
Jurrassic Park Fossilized
Wow! This has been on Our List for ever so long. We're at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah! It's another of those places where we must come back! This time we arrived just after two busloads of Roads Scholars so it was crazy busy. We took the tram up to the quarry...
Eastern Utah
We're in a high altitude desert. Sagebrush sprinkled across a red landscape here in the Colorado Plateau. Small towns are occasionally found along this stretch of US-40 but the population is so sparse that we've not had cell service for hours. We've gotten so...
It’s Raining?!
It's starting to rain! We've been on the road for nearly eight weeks and neither of us can remember the last rain we saw. Everywhere the talk is of the drought and wildfires. We stopped at a pull off to gaze out over Strawberry Reservoir and not only could we see rain...
Planning a trip? Dreaming of travel? Perhaps some of our adventures could inspire yours! Over the last several years we’ve had the distinct pleasure of many cross country journeys traveling though the Lower 48 in tents and our various teardrop campers as well as an amazing Alaska adventure that did not involve a camper.

London’s Canals
The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.
National Portrait Gallery
It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
Bletchley Park
It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.
