The CCC Campground

2016 Out West, North Dakota, Road Trip

As we were making the journey from the Garrison Dam to Fort Union yesterday, we realized we had the option of leaving the trailer at a campsite in the Little Missouri National Grassland CCC Campground before driving the rest of the way to Fort Union. So we did that. It’s a primitive campground, vault toilets and no hook ups, but reasonably level sites for tents or small RVs. We saw one other campsite that we thought was occupied so figured we wouldn’t be totally alone. We parked and set security for the T@B, set up the solar cell, and climbed back into the truck for the trip to Ft Union. When we returned we realized the tent we had seen earlier was an abandoned tent however there was another occupied campsite. We had a pleasant visit with Bruce and his kids Iliana and Ian from Denver. Other than that it was us and the quiet of the Missouri Grasslands and the sunset. The days are so long this far north that we went to sleep at dusk and awakened at sunrise. And as seen through the window of the T@B once during the night the stars we big and bright above us. It was if we could just reach up and touch the Milky Way! It was a totally exhilarating experience, and for a campground fee of just $3 with our National Parks Senior Pass!

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
